My crew always loves it when I sneak more herbs into the filling. Pulling some fresh rosemary and thyme from the garden just makes these taste extra awesome.

Serving Ideas Galore

Slice these up for the world's best sandwich or stack them beside a cozy soup. They also go great with creamy pasta or saucy mains.

Tasty Twist Ideas

Want to mix things up? Try sprinkling everything bagel seasoning on top, folding in some cheese, or adding chopped sun-dried tomatoes to the filling.

How to Keep 'Em Fresh

Tuck them into a sealed container on your counter for two days, or freeze them up to three months. Warm in the oven to get them soft again. What I've realized is you can't rush it. Give the dough all the time it wants to rise, and you'll end up with the softest, fluffiest rolls every single time.

Frequently Asked Questions

→ Is it okay to prep these ahead?
Totally. Make the dough, stash it in the fridge overnight, and let it get to room temp before you shape.
→ What’s the best way to store extras?
Keep leftover rolls sealed up at room temp for a couple days. Warm them a little before eating again.
→ Can these rolls be frozen?
Definitely. Toss baked rolls in the freezer for up to three months. Just thaw and pop them in the oven to heat.
→ Why isn’t my dough getting bigger?
Double check your yeast is new and your milk is just lukewarm—not hot. Let the dough hang out somewhere warm to rise.
→ Are dried herbs fine here?
For sure. Swap in 1 tablespoon dried parsley or Italian blend instead of fresh.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Cuisine: American

Yield: 12 Servings (12 rolls)

Dietary: Vegetarian

Ingredients

→ Dough

01 4-5 cups all-purpose flour
02 1 teaspoon salt
03 2 large eggs
04 ½ cup melted unsalted butter
05 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
06 2 tablespoons sugar
07 2 cups warm milk (110°F)

→ Filling

08 Salt and pepper to taste
09 ¼ cup fresh chopped parsley
10 4 cloves minced garlic
11 ½ cup softened unsalted butter

Instructions

Step 01

Grab your greased baking dish, lay in those swirled rolls. Let 'em puff up for half an hour or so. Bake in a 350°F oven for around 20 to 25 minutes, just until they're a nice golden brown.

Step 02

Spread that garlicky butter mix all across your big rectangle of dough. Roll the dough up from the long side, slice into 12 chunks.

Step 03

Throw softened butter, the minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper in a bowl and stir until it's one smooth buttery mix.

Step 04

Knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes till it gets smooth. Toss it in a greased bowl, cover it up, and give it about an hour (maybe a bit more) until it’s doubled in size.

Step 05

Start by tossing the warm milk and sugar in a big bowl. Sprinkle the yeast right on top, wait around 10 minutes for bubbles. Next, mix in the butter, eggs, salt, then add flour slowly till a soft dough starts sticking together.

Notes

  1. Want a flavor upgrade? Sprinkle in some shredded cheese with the filling.
  2. Eat them warm if you can, but they'll keep fine for two days at cool room temp.
