Peel, remove the cores, and slice the apples into 1/2-inch pieces. Drizzle juice from a lemon over them and gently mix to help them stay fresh-colored while you work.

Put a cast-iron skillet or sturdy pan on medium heat. Let the butter melt until it smells amazing and starts to bubble.

Add the sliced apples into the pan. Sprinkle in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt, and stir it all together so the apples are evenly coated.

Cover the pan and let the apples cook for about 15 minutes. Stir them once in a while. You’re aiming for soft, golden slices with a caramelized touch.
